green and bahama anoles

Question
what does the different color changing mean? What do each color represent? can a green anole and a bahama anole mate?

Answer
Changing color has a couple of functions.  Anoles will change color when they are stressed and reacting to what they may perceive as a predator, it also happens to allow them to camoflage to a limited extent.  This is why they will darken when they are colder and can't move as fast or if they are sick, why show themselves when they are easy prey?
The ability to mate depends on genetics. Breed hybrids occur only when both potential mates have the same quantity of chromosomes in their cells.  For instance, iguanids can be interbred, but not all agamids can.  We have seen some interbred species such as mules come about but they cannot produce offspring themselves unless they are female, such as a jenny, a female from a horse/donkey cross.
