skink eggs

Question
I was moving dirt around in my garden and found a bunch of what looked like faded pink jelly beans.  A large blue-tailed skink ran from the area at the same time.  I assume they are her eggs.  I re-buried them and have left them alone.  Anything else I can do to be sure they hatch?  I have seen the skink since then near the area.

Answer
The Ground Skink lays small clutches of 1-6 (usually 2-3) eggs in moist soil, rotting logs, in falling logs or under rocks. Eggs are laid during the summer, March through August in the Southern United States. There may be more than one clutch per year. In contrast to Eumeces species, the female Ground Skink does not guard its eggs (Robert Brooks 2009). Eggs hatch in one to two months, and young are sexually mature at one year of age.  I would just leave the eggs. Let nature take its course. Good luck
