QUESTION: i hatched 7 of my friends bearded dragon eggs when they were layed unexpectedly and she didnt no what 2 do so i said id do it as i had just successfully hatched 12 healthy carpet python eggs, it got to the time i knew they need to be all split up as there was 2 alpha males in the group and one was gettin a problem as they do, so i got my friend to take that one and another 2 free up space so they would fight, but then another male had a groth spurt very quickly and attacked the little runt of the litter and has broken her arm, i have pictures so will upload them 4 u, she has a big break on her lower front arm and i do think it is broke in 2 places, she keeps it tucked in as much as poss and i have been treatin it with tamodine which has helped the swellin and stopped any infection so far, its been broke 4 about a week, i cant take her 2 a vet as there r no reptile vets near me and would take a 2 hour drive to a zoo to get it sorted and i dont hav a car, i do think i need to splint it but need advice as i no i will have to aline the bones b4 i do this and dont want to hurt her, she is eatin fine and since we took the others to the shop to b rehomed she has put on alittle weight in that week so she is doin great appart from her arm, can u help, i feel i have to take care of her as i hatched her and feel i hav an obligation 2 make her better, :)

ANSWER:   In order to even set a break properly, you would have to have an x-ray done to find out where and what kind of breaks there are.  I would strongly urge you to find some kind of definitive help for the little girl.  the worse case would be removal of the limb, and surprisingly, like many 4 legged animals, she'll do better on three legs then continually reinjuring herself attempting to use a broken one.  As soon as you can, try to get her to that zoo to find out the condition of the limb.  If the break is repairable, her best chance is for you to have a clear picture of how it should be set.

QUESTION: it will be pretty impossible 2 get 2 the zoo anytime soon but i have been keepin it clean and applyin tamodine everytime i clean, the swellin has gone down alot this morning and she is even able to move her little fingers slightly and has even been puttin a litle weight on it but not much, i was gona strap the arm to her side 4 a while but cause of the swellin b4 that wasnt gona be a safe option with the lower broken part sticking out, do you think if she is very careful the arm could heal and she could even be able to use it again, i was very happy 2 see her little fingers moving 2day, she is also eatin loads but i wont let her hunt just yet and will keep hand feeding till she is able to move the arm without any chance of makin it worse, ill attach another pic 2 show you how she is lookin 2day, is there any treatment i can order online to help with the healin like antibiotics, e.t.c.? or would calcium powder and multivitamin powder be enough? :) Jo

Answer
A compound fracture (where the bone sticks out) is not something you can play with.  Without a proper reduction and treatment you run a big risk of further damage, she will try  to get out of any tieing that arm in.  Please do your utmost to get her to definitive care.  And try www.arav.org, there is a member directory and you may find an actual reptile vet closer to you.
