intestinal occlusion in bearded dragons

Question
Hi Diane,
we talked last week about the loss of my 6.5 years old dragon who died from intestinal occlusion. first of all, thank you so much for your information and advice on the subject. I got more from you, than the vet. who is supposed to be specialized in reptiles.
believe it or not, 2 days ago my second dragon began to show the same signs as the other one: no stools for a week, poor or almost no appetite and a sad look on his face.
This time I was alert.
I thought, mineral oil is not an irritant for the intestine but a stool softener. I gave him 0.5 ml of oil and 3 to 4 ml of warm water. bath in warm water. All of it repeated the day after, and youbi, a stool. The dragon is back to his old cherful him, waiting for me to feed him. Happy ending.
But believe me, the sand will be changed for tiles, and I will cut back on the dry food.
Thank you one more time for your advice.

Answer
Hi Brigit,
I'm glad to have been able to help you.  I'm also VERY happy to hear that your new "baby" is doing better.
Changing out the sand, making sure to bathe several times a week, and making sure to get enough water intake should help keep "things moving" on a regular basis.  Don't be afraid to offer some baby food prunes as soon as you feel he may have a bit of a problem.
As to the dry food, just be sure to soak it so its soft at least 1/2 way through.  When I soak the dry foods for my iguanas, I soak it so its soft almost ALL the way through. I also use the baby food prunes any time I see that the igs stools are a bit too hard to pass.
