Question
QUESTION: my frog will only be force fed. is there any alternative to that???? also, after i feed it, he sometimes puffs up and it scares me. he is some sort of small tree frog but i do not know exactly what kind. can you please help me???? this scares me!!!!! thanks!!

ANSWER: Hello Hannah,

Can you post a picture of your frog?  How long has it been since he has eaten on his own?
What are the temperatures in the tank, & what is the humidity reading?
What type of insects are you trying to feed him?  If he will not eat on his own, something in his setup might be incorrect for him & that is why he is not eating.
Do you have a small water dish or pond in his tank for him?
How are you assist feeding him?

QUESTION: well he has eaten a fly like 4 days ago on his own and i have gotten small crickets for him to eat but he does not eat them. i tried to force feed him a cricket, and he spit it out. i have also fed him small minnows and when i put them half way in his mouth he eats them. so he seems to like minnows ok. i do not know what the temp. or humidity is in his medium sized container. it is a medium sized container with  lots of this green plant and there is just a little bit of water, just enough so he can stick his head up. there is also some algae and that's about it. he never even goes in the water, he just sits on the wall. do you know why he is puffing up????? well, he looks ok but i don't know. well thanks for the reply! oh is it ok to let him swim in the bathtub????? just checking

Answer
Hello Hannah,

He is a cute little thing though.
That should be fine to let him swim around in the bathtub, just be careful not to let him go down the drain since he is so small!  :-))
Ok, you will need to get a water dish large enough for him to immerse himself in, to keep the humidity up in his tank.  You will also need a digital probe thermometer in order to measure his temperatures in his tank.
Since I am not positive of his species, the basic husbandry for frogs is normally around the same, generally speaking.  He appears to be a green tree frog.  So, he should have at least a range of 72-80 during the day, with a relative humidity of around 50-60% but that can vary.
You can use an undertank type of heater, to help keep the water in the dish warm, once you get some type of water dish for him.
They can safely have temperatures of 65 or so, for nighttime.  They are nocturnal as well, so he wont be real active during the day.
You will also need to use a substrate like eco earth, bed-a-beast, coconut husk, & things like that to help retain some moisture.  Changing the water daily is a must, too.  Be sure to use conditioners in the water to take chlorine & other chemicals out of the water too.
He could be puffing up if he is too hot or too cold, but he is probably too cold if you don't have any type of heating in there for him.
Let me know how he is doing.
