Tail Damage due to overheating

Question
My dad put out Leopard gecko out on the deck in full sunlight yesterday. He became severly overheated, but managed to make it. His tail however seems to have suffered damage. It is sticking almost completly straight up, and his white and gray skin has turned pink. He doesn't seem able to move it. Does he need to go to a vet and have it removed? Is there anything else we can do to help him recover after being overheated?

Answer
Hello Amanda,

Oh wow, that is too bad.
Do you have any pictures of him that I could see?
He has most likely suffered from heat injury for sure.  They don't do well in full sunlight for very long.  What did you put him in when you put him on the deck?  A glass tank, etc?
He could possibly have a burn, but I have personally never experienced this problem before.  If he is not moving or has much response at all, I would take him to a vet as he could have mild heat stroke.
Try to get some oral fluids into him, until you can get him in to a vet.
I don't think that they would remove or amputate the tail.  I am not sure why his tail would be sticking up unless it is a severe electrolyte imbalance & his muscles have locked up in that area for some reason.
Have you tried soaking him in a cool/warm bath?
