UVB Deficiency in Bearded Dragons

Question
Let me start by saying, this is the most wonderful sight! Thank you for your time to help educate people to become responsible pet owners! All Experts.com is a fabulous resource for everyone!
Our question: We have 2 beardies, approx 2 to 5-years old, brothers and we were not educated on proper care from the pet store in which we purchased them from. After Daniel started showing odd symptoms I found this site & quickly realized our GREAT lack of knowledge. We assume he has acquired a calcium deficiency due to lack of UVB for God only knows how long. The light given to us with the "package" didn't produce any UVB's. We have owned them approx 1 year and just kept buying the UVA bulbs that came with the package up until 1 week ago. We now have lighting that is 7% UVB as well as UVA producing. We also give them Reptivite sprinkled on there water soaked dry nugget/chunk food. Daniel's symptoms were: finding him upside down, appearing to be "dead",light grey in color as well as a lack of control/use of his back legs. ARE THESE SYMPTOMS REVERSIBLE? I know we need to get them both blood tested for a full health check up. Also, 4 days into using the new UVB light we noticed both of them getting better color back (more deeper brown) & Jack acts MUCH more alert and active. Daniel is still periodically upside down. Two times this last 7 days compared to 4-8 times per day previous to his new UVB exposure. While waiting to get them into the vet, is there anything else you recommend besides the UVB & vitamins to help alleviate this sad/scary dilemma? We want to do all we can to get them healthy again.
Thank you so much for sharing your time/knowledge.

Answer
Hello Marquita & family,  :-))

Well, this is great you are taking the time to learn & educate yourselves.  I am happy to hear that!
Yes, those are definitely signs of MBD for sure.
Are they housed together right now?  When they get better, you probably will not be able to house them together though as males get aggressive towards each other.
I hate to have to tell you but the 7% UVB is made by ESU which has such a small amount of UVB that it really wont benefit them very much & for very long.  It quickly declines.  I always feel bad having to tell people they got the wrong light but I want your dragons to get better.  I do think you need to get a better light & you will see unbelievable turn around in them both.
The best UVB flourescent tube lights are either the Reptisun 10 or the Reptiglo 8.  Do NOT get the Reptiglo 10 as it causes eye problems, & steer clear of any compact or coil lights.
If you really want to blast them with tons of UVB then I highly recommend that you get a Megaray or a T-rex active UV heat either of which are great lights.  They are mercury vapor bulbs & emit at least 8 times more UVB than the bulb you have now & will last up to 10 months or 1 year before needing to be replaced, plus, the Megaray comes with a 6 month warranty, too.
The reptivite is ok, but I suggest getting a liquid calcium which will be absorbed much more effectively right now.  You can order it from:  www.beautifuldragons.com   I will help you dose them according to their weight once you get it.
The symptoms are reversible but you have to fix it now.  Do they have any bone deformities yet?  They may always have a bit of less density to their bones, but you can stop it from getting worse.
Let me know how things are going.  Are they both eating well right now?
