Question
BD\'s white tail
BD's white tail
QUESTION: My 8 month old male bearded dragon's tail turned white and his hind legs look sort of dusty also. He recently shed so I know it's not that. I use a lot of calcium dust when I feed him crickets 4-5 times per week, and am wondering if it has something to do with that. What's happening?

ANSWER: Hello Paul,

His tail looks as if it's going to shed.  Did his tail shed with the rest of him recently?  It is not uncommon for them to do sheds back to back.  He is still growing & maturing at 8 months of age.
It doesn't look like a fungal problem so I don't think that there is anything to worry about.
How many crickets does he eat on the days you feed him?

QUESTION: Hi Tracie.  Thanks for your response.  Maybe he is shedding, I thought his tail had recently shed, but maybe it is just a case of back-to-back, as you say.  He can easily eat 20 med/large crickets in a 10 minute feeding.

Answer
Hello Paul,

I honestly think that it is a shed, it looks like a normal tail about to shed.  He is growing & filling out right now so he may shed constantly for awhile, in one place or another.  It sounds like he is eating plenty.  Do you feed him a couple of times a day?  Does he eat greens & veggies some, too?
