Question
QUESTION: Hi Diane!! Guess what, my leopard geckos just laid eggs and i wanted to thank you for helping me. I couldn't have done it without your advice. Anyway i wasn't exactly sure how t oincubate the eggs. What do i use for the incubator substrate and can i leave it in the same tank as the mom and dad? Last, how much should i mist it and if i want females what temperature should the eggs be in? Thanks so much as i am soooo excited.

ANSWER: Hi Chris,
Here is the direct link to all the info you need on incubation.  This way, you will have the info at hand easier.

On the temperatures, 80 degrees will be mostly females, 88 degrees, mostly males, and in between,  a mix of male and female... you need to be careful of going too high in temperatures as it can cause problems with the offspring.
You do need to remove the eggs.  Also, your female will most likely be laying  more eggs in a few weeks, and a few more a few weeks after that. Be sure that she is well fed and hydrated.  Make sure her insects are well dusted with calcium and she has access to calcium in her tank.
You may loose this clutch of eggs as its best to have your incubator up and running to temperatures prior to the laying of the eggs.
You will need to find a supplier of very small crickets for when the eggs hatch...also, the babies most likely will not eat until they shed, which generally is a few days after hatching.

QUESTION: Hi diane, that was a very good site but i so wonder if i put them in an incubation with a lid will it still be okay to leave it in the same tank as the parents? Also, will an undertank heater be enough for the leopard geckos? Thanks so much for your quick reply.

ANSWER: Hi Chris,
In giving the geckos their needed  temperature ranges, you can't maintain the temperature to incubate eggs in the leos tank and the leos can't not have access to the temperature ranges. Plus, the humidity levels for the eggs wouldn't be good for the adults.
As to the under tank heater, If you mean the adults, I like offering overhead heat during the day in addition to access to the UTH, which they have 24/7. Undertank heaters really don't add to the air temperature, just the surface temperature.

QUESTION: Im really sorry to bother you but how would i keep the temperature up for the leopard gecko eggs? I am trying to get it to 80 degrees for females and it isn't getting to it. Is it okay if the temperature for the eggs are around 76 degrees? Or is that too cold? Thanks.

Answer
HI Chris,
You use and incubator.,.the most common one is called a Hovabator.... or you can construct one.  Instructions can be found at:
http://www.herpcam.com/incubator.htm which has several ways to make one.
and more info on incubation:

I'm afraid the 76 degrees is most likely too cool.
