Question

Gecko?
Hello! I will try to make this as short as possible.
On Friday we found a lizard walking down the hall of my sons elementary school. He didnt seem to be scared and walked right into the cup that a lady used to catch him. They wanted to let him go outside but I said I would take him home and care for him because I think he may have been someones pet. (Plus i LOVE lizards.) But now I am trying to figure out exactly what kind of lizard he is so that I can take care of him properly. I have looked and looked and have not seen a picture that matched his markings exactly. Someone who used to have Leopard Geckos thinks he may be a young malnourished Leo. So that is why I am asking you if you have any idea on what he is? lol =)
Also - he seems to be feeling much better since yesterday. He has eaten 2 mealworms, and drank a ton of water. And I live in Northern Nevada, I have not ever seen this kind of lizard running around in the desert. And neither has anyone else. It gets very cold here in the winter. Anyhow, Thanks for helping!

Answer
Hello Stephanie,

Oh poor thing!  If it is someone's pet they haven't taken very good care of it.  It does look to be a very malnourished & dull looking leopard gecko.
If he is eating on his own, that is great to hear.  Keep working on hydrating him as that is very important.  His tail is very very thin, so if he is not eating up to par then you will need to begin using a syringe to drip chicken or turkey babyfood on the end of his nose to get more food into him.  Make sure you are getting calcium into him as well.
What are you using for the heating?  Do you have an undertank heater, & a ceramic heat emitter for his warm area?  They need a hot spot of around 88-90 & a humid hide, as well.
It looks like you are using paper towels, correct, for the lining of his tank?
