African Plated lizards

Question
Can two plated lizards live together?  I read your statement that two species should not live together, but what about two of the same species?  The cage is five feet wide, about three feet tall, with different levels of hiding/eatings spaces.  The lizard I have is probably over ten years old.  Too old for a companion?  I am not at all interested in breeding.
Thank you.

Answer
Most lizards are territorial, and naturally live a solitary life except during mating season.  The chances of two being able to share a confined habitat without fighting are very slim.  And to put a younger or smaller plated in with an older one is very dangerous.  The ten year old will look on any newcomer as an invader.
