Tree Frog Laying Eggs on my Outdoor Furniture!

22 14:30:50

Question
We live in an area with loads of tree frogs.  They sing us to sleep at night, and often end up hiding under furniture cushions and our grill cover on our back porch.  Today I found one under the cushion of our chaise on the back porch - laying a clutch of eggs!  Should I just wait for her to go away and then clean the eggs up, or is there any chance they will hatch if I move the eggs to the pond edge behind our house?  Silly frog - must be a first time mom!

Answer
Hi Colleen, In order for the eggs to have a chance to hatch you would have needed to find two frogs under the cushion! Tree frogs engage in external fertilization, the male deposits sperm over the egg mass after the female has layed them. I would move them to the pond edge anyway. Who know's, maybe the male scampered away just before you lifted the cushion : ) Even unfertile frog eggs will contribute to the ecosystem by providing food for other aquatic creatures.
