QUESTION: Hi, we've had Trigger for approximately 7 years with no previous health issues. She has recently developed a lump on her tail (see picture) that we originally thought was a burn. It has since gotten much bigger and we are really worried. She is still eating and is very active. It doesn't seem to be bothering her at all and she doesn't react when I touched it to see if it was causing her any pain. Please help us!!!

ANSWER: Hello Kirsty,

Hm, that looks to be a cyst, tumor or an abscess.  I would definitely take her to the vet to get it biopsied in case it is either one of those.
Is it hard when you touch it or press on it, or does it give & is softer?"
Did she hurt her tail in any way that you know of?
I would get that looked at just in case it is an abscess or something that should be taken off so an infection doesn't get started.
I would definitely like to know the outcome of this.  I have never seen a lump on the tail quite like that before.  At least though, it doesn't seem to be bothering her though, but it should be looked at.
Keep me posted on Trigger.

QUESTION: Hi Tracie, thanks for your quick response and advice. The lump is kind of hard with a softer spot in the middle on top. She does have a kink in her tail that she already had when we got her from the pet shop. It was a long time ago but I think they said it was a birth defect and not to worry about it. Do you think this could have something to do with it?
I've made an appointment with the vet and will let you know the outcome.
Many thanks, Kirsty

Answer
Hello Kirsty,

Well, it is possible that over time, if the kink damaged any scales, that they may have ruptured & caused some type of infection that has slowly festered over time.
Reptiles are very slow to show health problems, so I am glad that you are getting her into the vet for analysis.  I tend to think that it could be an abscess with maybe a blood or pus pocket.  We will see.  Make sure he does do a biopsy of the area to have it cultured to see what it is.
Also, do not let him dump meds down her throat without a good reason or doing a blood test to determine that she has any type of infection.
Alot of times, vets are overzealous with medications & it will do more harm than good.  Keep me posted on her!
