Question

basilisk tail
My green basilisk dropped his tail and I saw no growth for a long time. It has
now started to regrow but is black and plasticy. It is also curved instead of
straight...is this normal? Will it sort itself or do I need to do anything?

Answer
Hi Alex, it appears that he has dry rot in his tail. He needs to see a vet and it may need to be amputated. It is common with reptiles that have injured tails, it starts to dry out and become black. Also known as Dry Gangrene it can be very serious if not taken care of. The black will spread all the way up his tail if not treated.

A vet needs to take a look and prescribe any needed medication and if its serious it will need to be amputated at the spot of the disease. The link has much more information.

Best of luck,
