Question
i have two anoles, one big and one small.  the big one is a male, and i can't tell whether the small one is male or female. i recently bought baby food and crickets for them, the big one eat the crickets but the small didn't eat the baby food or the crickets, is this a problem?

Answer
Hello Robert, well first of all I need a couple more details. Such as when did you get them, what kind of anole are they, what size tank are they in, are they together, do they have uv lighting, do they have a heat lamp, hygrometer, thermometer, and anything else you might think is helpful.

Crickets are a good choice but you need to make sure that they are NO bigger then the space between the anole's eyes. They might just be to big of crickets for the little one to eat. My Green Anoles (adult) eat small crickets and they love them. I tried feeding mediums and they just looked at them. You also want a variety of worms too, like silkworms. (DON'T feed them mealworms, and only feed waxworms as a treat)
I don't suggest feeding them baby food, they are strictly insectivores and although some anoles might go for the baby food most wont even realize that they are suppose to eat it. They go by the movement of the food instead of smell like other animals.

If this is a newly purchased anole then it could be that it is still uncomfortable in it's new home and it can take up to 2 weeks for it to get used to new surroundings. Still feed them everyday but if after the first week of no eating then there is definitely a problem. He could feel threatened by the larger lizard or the large lizard is bullying him when you are not looking. Try feeding in a separate container or if they can climb then take one out and put him in a box (with air and lid) then feed the one still in the tank and then switch them. It seems like a lot of work but its worth it. Good luck, any clarification just ask.
