Question
Hi my question about my veiled chameleon is egg bounding? I'm a little neverous/scare because this is my 1st exotic reptile that requires a lot of care and I have read several articles saying that most female chameleons do not servive after laying the infertile eggs or have trouble laying eggs and die from so much stress.
My chameleon is only two months 1/2 and I have also, read that female chameleons start egg bounding at five months.I have notice my chameleon being at the bottom of the screen cage on several occasions and found it weird since they like the higher grounds. In addition, I'm wondering if she can eggbound at such a early stage.
My second question is feeding, I am on the process of gut loading my crickets to provide all the extra nutrients to my chameleon.I tried feeding it mealworms and waxworms but, takes no interested. Even though I have newspaper at the bottom I'm not sure if she ate them or not.
I'm more concern because she looks skinny but, since she consider a baby I do not know if its perfect for her age .She seems more at ease with her surroundings and her coloration is great. Thank you for answering my pervious question and hope to hear from you again.

Answer
Frankie,    I was very surprised you chose a female because of that reason. I knew you were a first timer but you are doing your homework. These are definitely not a first time reptile. These are an expert reptile but we will get through this. Is she at the bottom of her cage often? Do you have a sandbox there? When her leg is forward you should be able to see one of the eggs in front of her leg from her side are you seeing this? The most important thing is WATER and lots of Calcium !!!!!! Gut load your crickets with calcium enriched veggies and fruits. Especially zucchini. She should not be gravid at the age they told you she is. Therefore she must be older. The biggest problem when they go of feed with these chameleons is they dehydrate quickly. They starve quickly too. Sorry. What I would do right now is soak her in a tepid bath a couple times a day for about 15 to 20 minutes. Try to get her to climb on to your finger if you can stress is the last thing she needs right now. Try to get her to eat the waxworms they are easy to digest and are very high in protein. Set the wax worm in front of her not on the bottom. What is her name and can you send me a picture of her side view leg forward and front please? I am not sure is she eating the crickets at all? Oh, and Frankie, they do not always eggbind and they do not always die but, I need to see what kind of shape she is in. , Tina
