Bearded Dragons, m/f ?

Question
Hello Diane, I trust you are having a good night.  My question is to follow.  My friends and I have had a Dragon that we confidently believed to be male for over 8 months now.  In fact, we thought we have seen him mate with a proven female over the past few weeks...  To our amazement, 'He'; strike that, 'She' just laid a clutch of #19 eggs.  Can a Bearded Dragon sex change from male or female or is it possible for a Bearded Dragons sex ever to change in an "a-sexual" fashion?
Please allow me to thank you in advance for your time %26 knowledge.
Best Regards,
Sean

Answer
Hi Sean,
They can't/don't change sex but what you may have witnessed is a very dominate female. Basically, you may have an Alpha female.  When this happens with males that are housed together, the "beta" male can hide the fact he is male and present as a female so as to fool the alpha male. Usually, when a beta male is removed from the situation and given his own hosing, etc they will blossom into a true male in looks and actions.
It will be interesting to see if your 'original" female changes in looks or actions if removed from what you thought was a male.
If there was no male present, then of course the eggs are not viable.
