Question
hey
i have a 5 ft tank it can hold water so i was looking into picking one place in the world and creating it in a tank so i would really like a list of say 3 or 4 different frogs or/and lizards that can live peacefully together
i have read other posts that say its not a good idea but my local reptile/petshop has a 3 ft tank with 3 different breeds of frogs and i'm not sure which small lizards are in the same tank i think they are anoles
i understand half water half land so the hummidity will need to be monitored and i also understand that any lizards that need a uvb are a no no because frogs dont need a uvb
i have done a lot research and was thinking that madagsca would be a fab idea as long as no anmial gets hurt
any advice would be mostly appreciated
this isn't something i'm rushing into
i'm hoping to spend around a good year or more researching because at the end of the day i'm messing with lives
i have a bearded dragon a lepord gecko and a rose chilie tarantula so i have experience with these animals but amphibians are different all together
so my question is
what (if any) breeds of frogs can live together with what breeds of lizards safely and happily????

Answer
Dear Michelle,
thank you for your question.
Cohabitating different species in normal tanks is not a good idea. Even if the species come from the same region, they usually don't share the exact same habitat and small tanks don't allow for setting up microhabitats with different humidity, temperature ect. The animals also cannot avoid each other and may prey on each other. Since all frogs have skin toxins, the lizards may be hurt and most frog will try to eat anything that moves and has an even ermote chance to fit in their mouth.

Pet shops often cohabitate different species because of lack of room and because they don't really care if the living conditions are good, the animals just have to survive long enough until they are sold. Some zoos cohabitate species, but they usually have really big enclosures.
So I don't really recommend it unless your tank is more than about 3ft long and high and 2ft wide. It's also a good idea to have some experience with keeping each species in their own tank so that you can really judge their behaviour and tell when something is wrong with them.
I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer
