Bearded Dragon Calcium and Vitamins

Question
I wanted to find out about calcium and vitamins for baby (and adult) bearded dragons.  We are currently using some Reptical calcium on crickets for our baby bearded dragon.  It has about 6% phosphorous in it.  I have read that bearded dragons need no phosphorous in their calcium.  Is that correct?  We are not using any vitamin dusting at this time.  I have read that we should be dusting this with vitamins also.  I have seen info about Rep-cal calcium (with no phosphorous) and also Rep-cal Herptivite Multi-Vitamins. Are these the recommended kinds and how often should we be dusting their crickets or food with them (both as babies and adults)? Thank you.

Answer
Hello Ken,

Yes, the Repti-cal is made by Flukers.  I do not like Flukers as they are the makers of ESU & Zilla lighting products which are horrible products.
The phosphorus will bind calcium absorption, so, yes getting the Repcal calcium & the herptivite are much much better products.  I recommend switching to the Repcal products.
The baby will need calcium 5 times weekly & vitamins 1-2 times weekly.
Adults, you can back down on the calcium to 3 times weekly & vitamins once weekly or even every other week IF they eat greens & veggies well.
Keep in mind too, that you have to make sure that you have adequate UVB lighting as well, to help them uptake the calcium better.
I hope this helps.
