Hi , I have 2 tokay geckos they about 3 t0 4 yrs old and have had had 2 health babies a year ago, but 3 to 4 weeks after she laid eggs this year she started acting wierd, she fell of the glass of 20 gal tank and was clinching her fist shes done that several times in the last couple weeks that ive noticed one of the times she made a noise and fell on the ground clinching her fist and biting her tounge like she was in pain, but then later relaxes, but seems week ,and it was just weeks before this and a week after she laid the eggs that she was happy and trying to mate again. So i dont know if shes pregnant again and something happened or what? thanks for you time

Answer
Hi Chris, My first suspicion would be tetany. It's caused by low blood calcium levels and results in twitching toes, muscles tremors, lack of coordination and can progress to seizures. Female birds that have produced eggs can suffer the same thing. It's really important to increase the calcium supplementation for egg laying females of any species. If she is still eating on her own then make sure her insects are well dusted, a calcium with vitamin D3 is best. If she is not able to catch prey I would suggest mixing some calcium into a small amount of baby food and dabbing or smearing some along her upper lip. She will most likely lick it off.
