Question
QUESTION: Breaded dragon (Edgar) has not pooped in 2 weeks.
Not eating his greens, I keep offering, but is eating crickets.
What should I do.
Any help I will be most grateful
Thank you in advance

ANSWER: Hi Pamela
The first thing that I need to know is what type of substrate is on the bottom of your Beardies tank?

Is it a particle substrate that can be scooped up and ingested when they chase/eat crickets or is it tile/slate/paper towel?

Also-their metabolism does slow down this time of year so if he appears healthy in every other aspect-I would give him a soak in luke warm water twice per day and see if that does not encourage him to have a bowel movement

If he is on any type of sand and he is a baby or a young juvie then you may have an impaction problem and he would need to see a vet

Please get back to me and I can try and advise you further

Answer
Hi Pam
Although the reptile sand is sold "for reptiles" it really is not safe to use with most lizards-especially young ones

The sands that contain calcium are the worst as they encourage the lizard to actually lick/eat the stuff

Many lizards have died from impaction from ingesting reptile sand

You might want to look into using slate/tile etc. for the bottom of his tank
It actually is easier to clean and more hygienic than sand

Good Luck with your Beardie
