Baytril mixing and dosing

Question
QUESTION: Hello Tracie,
How are you?  I have been treating my Leos with Terramycin eye ointment, for a little over a week.  I am not sure how long I should use it...but I noticed one of the geckos, the Albino one- her eye is still pretty bad and looks like an infection...so I bought:
Baytril 10%, 25ml from the site you recommended.
It says this on the bottle: "Baytril 10% has a concentration of 100mg per 1ml.   Cure: 2ml per quart of water for 10 days."

So, before I give the meds to the gecko, I wanted to check with you...do I actually take 2ml and mix it with a quart of water? Then administer the dosage from the mixture?
If so, what dosage is used of this (or however I am supposed to do it) for a gecko weighing 60 grams?
(I am going to double check her weight again).

Thank you so much!

ANSWER: Hello Crystal,

How is your little one doing on the Terramycin now?  Any improvement, I hope?
No, there is no need to mix it in a large amount.  You can just use a tiny syringe to dose her.  Here is the dose for her at 10g/kg:  .006ml  That is a tiny amount! I am sure that you don't have that small of a syringe.  I have the hundredths syringe though & went to try & measure.  At .05ml it only took a couple of tiny drops to fill.
I am going to recommend giving one drop with a dropper, daily, for 7-10 days, then take a break & we will see how she is doing after that.
Be sure to keep her hydrated during this time.
Let me know how she is doing!

QUESTION: Hi Tracie, Thank you so much.
So this means, the 10 percent concentration...is it okay not to mix it with water, but to just make sure the gecko drinks plenty of water each day then?

Also, i am crazy about understanding calculations, and I am having trouble understanding how to get the .006ml amount from the given ratio that is in grams of 10g/kg.  I think there is something I am missing... I guess I am a little confused. Maybe because there are 2 different measurements: g vs. ml...and I maybe multiplied and got confused thinking it was.06 instead.  Sorry, I am just worried...this is pretty new to me. Any additional info would be amazing if possible. Thank you very much for all or your help!! :)
Her eye looks so yucky, so I am for sure going to use the Baytril.
THANK YOU again!!!

ANSWER: Hello Crystal,

Your gecko needs so little of the meds that there is no need to mix it with water.  Yes, just hydrate your gecko daily, or make sure that he drinks plenty of water every day.

OMG, no wonder you are confused!  LOL  I am sorry.  I looked at my post above & no wonder.  The dosage is 10mg/kg for a stubborn respiratory infection, NOT 10g/kg!!  Sorry.  However, the dosage that I gave you is correct at .006ml so no worries.  I just accidentally left out the "g" for mg's.  The regular dosage is 5-10mg/kg of bodyweight.
Remember, when you are figuring calculations, to move the decimal point 3 points to the left when going from grams to kg's.  :-))

Her poor eye!  I hope that we can get this all cleared up for her.  Is she eating?

QUESTION: Hi again Tracie, wow you are so fast with your response.
Okay, thank you very much.
She is still eating.  She's a really good eater usually.

I have heard before that Albinos tend to be weaker than normal leos.  Do you know if this is true? She is such a cutie pie.  She lets me pick her up, but once in a while when she is not feeling like it, she will turn her whole body in a 360- turn upside down and right side up again real quick in one motion.  Then I know to let her be.  She did that a couple of times once in the past and once recently... but now I think maybe she knows when I am trying to take care of her.  hehe.

Thank you!

Answer
Hello Crystal,

That is great she is such a good eater right now.
Well, albinos are more inbred so yes, they "can" have more health problems & I do see more health problems with albinos, hypos or trans animals.

How is her demeanor right now, does she mind being handled most of the time?  That is so funny that she will turn a flip, literally, when she doesn't want to be picked up!  They are sweet aren't they?

I hope that she is doing better for you real soon.  :-))
