Question
Hello, Pam.
I went away for vacation. A friend of ours is taking care of our pets, but before we left, we went to Petsmart to buy some Bearded Dragon food for my lizard, but they didn't have the kind of dry food I'd been feeding her. So we got a different kind and our pet caretaker has been feeding her the new food. Ever since two days ago, our pet caretaker has said that she has been sleeping all day, and not waking up. He said that if she was dead, then she'd be stiff, but she isn't stiff. I am afraid that the new food might be causing her problems. My mom asked him to go to the grocery store and buy some yellow squash because she loves that, and perhaps that could help her. But I'm still afraid she could die. Can Bearded Dragons eat a different type of dry food after eating the same kind for a while?

Answer
No bearded dragon should be on pelleted food alone, and most pellets are no good for them anyway.  If the first ingredient is corn or corn products, it is useless.  The only pellet food I recommend is Rep-cal.  The dragon should be seen by his reptile vet for any medical issues, such as possible impaction.  How old is the dragon and where do you live?  An adult dragon may be attempting to brumate now, many in the southern states have started napping in August since 2004.  And lately I have been seeing more dragons starting brumation earlier even in the northern states more the past couple of years since all the climate changes we have been experiencing since 2004
