Question
QUESTION: Hello Tracie,
I have everything I need for the medication and I will go to my local supermarket for the soy yogurt.By the way when should i use the priobotics? I wouldn't want it to interfiere with the antibiotics. How should I use the soy yogurt?Should I mix it with vegetables or am I suppose to feed it by itself? Nevermind about the question of how much should I use because on my research at beardeddragons.com I found out how much I need to provide. But do I place the baytril in the nubelizer mixed with water or do I insert the baytril pure?for how long again? I saw on youtube a clip of how this owner used the nubelizer on his snake which gave me an idea of how to use it,but he mixed it with water. The clip is named after"treating reptile respitory infection" Is this video similiar to what I should be doing? One question I've answered myself according to this video is that I oughtta take the sick dragon and put him in a enclosed tank or shelter I'm assuming.Tracie please get back to me.I'm waiting and looking for the heads up so I can proceed as soon as possible because this morning before I went to work I heard him cough and poop. Then he got off the log and started shaking his head from left to right until he coughed up more poop from his mouth and continued coughing as he would open and close his mouth jamming his teeth as if he was eating sand which was the wierdest thing I had ever seen or heard of from dragons. Then he had his mouth open for a while with his tongue moving front and back.As I saw him do these crazy things I immediately turned on all his lights and placed him under the basking light on the rock.He remained puffed out for a little while and then he went back to normal. So I had to go to work an hour late to make sure he felt better.I came back for lunch and after work and he seem to be normal again looking healthy except for the few coughs he does daily. He is still eating but pooping like in a liquid shape looking like diaheria but I'm not sure if it is beacause its very green.Thank you very much for your time and please help me end this poor guy's suffering.

ANSWER: Hello Antone,

Let me know how things go!

QUESTION: Hello Tracie.I'm so sorry I haven't get back to you.I've been bussy and bussy keeping Snoopy alive.I had to take him to the hospital because when I fed him two worms a day after the baytril in the nubelizer,he shaked his head from left to right and started gaping really hard with his rip cages showing,he got stressed out and turn black and purple from his shoulder to his neck.He was pooping very loose stool as he struggles to breathe, then he almost passed out so I put him on the nubelizer to see if he'd get better again and then he passes out so when I took him out the shoe bin I sprayed water into his mouth and then he looked like he came back to life.So that made me think it wasn't respitorial infection or the baytril wasn't matching well with the insects I fed him or it was something else so I took him to the vet.At first they had no idea what it was until they heard him breathing with a clicking sound and gaping. The vet told me that it was definitely respitorial infection and gave him an injection.I have a baytril 22.7mg/ml compound they gave me to prescribe him orally with two times a day.The vet told me that it is not recommended to use the nubelizer on him which I disagree because I agree with you more.He told me that most dragons don't survive pneumonia which I also disagree with.Sounds like the knowledge I've gained from you and my researches are more accurate I'm assuming. It turned out to be that I've had to waist about 200 dollars for something we already knew Snoopy had during my tough economic situation. But I'd like your help on telling me what should I feed him or what not and between what hours of baytril, food, calcium, vitamin,,and the priobotics I should give him.Your the real expert lol.I'd wish you were my vet.

ANSWER: Hello Antone,

Oh no, I am so sorry about Snoopy, the poor thing!  I was going to send an email to check on you but you wrote.
The superworms probably did not sit very well after the medication.
How long did you do the nebulizer treatment for, 5 or so minutes?  It wasn't directly in his eyes or face right, just blowing into a container/tank you made up?  Do you have a picture of the tank you set up for his nebulizer treatments?
That is fine for the injection initially.  The nebulizer treatments are for severe cases, such as stubborn respiratory infections & pneumonia.  Remember, they don't always get better with just oral medication if it is respiratory because the meds may not penetrate well enough.  The lungs don't have cilia making it impossible for them to clear out their lungs like mammals & humans.

The medication should be given on an empty stomach, after he is warmed up.  Maybe wait an hour or so to make sure he has absorbed the meds.  Then, later in the day, you can give the probiotics such as the non daily soy yogurt, so it wont interfere with the medication.
The calcium & vitamins can be given with his food.

I am so sorry he had some trouble.  Did you increase his basking temperatures to 105-110?

Let me know how he is doing.

Snoopy and Lizzie
QUESTION: Hey Tracie,how you doing?
It's not bad news this time lol.I'm just writing to you to tell you that Snoopy has been doing fine. The day after I wrote to you about his critical condition I learned not to feed him while on medication or to put the nubelizer too close to his face and learned about the temperature increase. So I used the nubelizer in my 10 gallon tank and he took the medication well. Then an 1 and a half later I gave him organic soy yogurt. Then three hours later I gave him vegetables and it didn't go well for him but not as bad as the insects. He threw up the lettuce, turned black and purple from shoulders up again but not for a long preiod of time because afterwards I gave him the oral grape flavored medication prescribed by the vet. After that he wasn't gaping during the next couple of days which I didn't feed him.I was going to decide to not give him any food during the days or a day after giving him medication but for the past week he is doing fine so I haven't used any medication.I have been feeding him crickets every two days, same as I'm doing with Lizzie and fresh vegetables everyday but no worms yet,I'm scared lol.Snoopy and Lizzie looks beautiful thanks to you.Lizzie is even more active and beautiful because I have been giving her organic soy yogurt as well even if she doesn't need it,same as Snoopy. Here is a picture of the beautiful creatures brought to me by lovely mother nature.Again, thank you very much Tracie.

Answer
Hello Antone,

Wow, he has been through a lot, but it sounds like he has really improved a lot now!
Are you still giving the nebulizer treatments?  The 10 gallon tank should have worked perfectly for that, too.
So you are giving them both non dairy organic soy yogurt huh?  That is fine, a little for Lizzie wont hurt her either.  I am sure it has helped Snoopy out.

Great job getting him back to health!  They are both beautiful, indeed.  :-)
I hope he continues to improve & is 100% back to normal.

Let me know if you need anything at all.
I am so happy for you.
