Question
I have a White's tree frog, a juvenile leopard gecko and an adult leopard gecko who was recently given to me. I usually feed them crickets but have on occasion fed mealworms. The adult gecko has only been fed mealworms from a juvenile age.my question is this...when I went to the pet store to figuer out how to keep the mealworms from burrowing in the substrate I was told that I should have cut off their heads to keep them from burrowing inside of my animals as well. Of course I freaked out, not wanting to even imagine my animals dying so terrible a death...Is it true? What are the chances? Is my frog more susseptible or what about my baby leopard gecko? How about the adult who's only eaten mealworms? (and how healthy could he be with that as his only diet? Thanks for your time and effort, april.

Answer
Hey,
I've got good news, they don't burrow in side your gecko.
The leopard gecko kills them when they eat them.  To be quite honest, it sounds like they just played a mean trick because leopard geckos don't eat anything dead and cuting the head off will for sure kill the mealworm.  The gecko who has been feed meal worms all his life change him as all of your animals to a mainly cricket diet.  Now, what you should do to keep your mealworms from burrowing is to buy a small dish to keep them in when you feed them to your gecko.  Have fun!!

Your Welcome,
