Question
Hello Pam, i have not been asking much questions here much but last i can remember i had asked a few about my female being pregnant. well her first and second clutch she layed didn't go too well, the first 19 were never found because she burred them so deep and they dryed up and died. Second clutch became too moist and molded up and died. But right now she has layed about 13 eggs and is still going! i have an incubator and everything porperly ready for this clutch. So far she has layed overall about 39 eggs. My incubator has a trough that you fill water with to keep humidity in the incubator, my older brother said that i need a light in there so mold won't grow on them. Is this true? Would a light really help?

And some great tips would be appreciated.

Thanks, Joe Zarnick

Answer
In the wild, mama beardie digs a burrow and buries the eggs, carefully tamping back the soil.  The eggs are kept in darkness, so no, a light is neither needed nor wanted.  The eggs should be kept in a moist vermiculite, but not soggy, just kept moist. Never mist water directly on the eggs.  I put paper toweling on the grating and keep that wet as well, and keep a steady temperature of 85 F.  It will take between 70-90 days for hatching at that temperature.
