Bearded dragon seems scared of crickets

Question
I got a bearded dragon yesterday. she's three and was used in a "zoo to you" program so is extremely friendly. I gave her veggi's this morning and she doesnt seem intrested (the guy told me she doesnt like many veggi's) and when I put some crickets in her tank she went nuts trying to climb the wall and she seems really scared of them. is that normal? Should I take her out til she calms down or do they tend to do this? and how long should I wait for her bath? I want to let her soak but I don't know if she is stressed from the move and I don't want to stress her more...

Answer
Hello Kimi,

Well, she may be used to being fed outside of her tank.  How big is she?  How big are the crickets?
A good way to feed her would be to put her into a large plastic bin & put a few in at a time, until she finishes the ones in the bin.  Then, you can put more in once she is done with the few you put in initially.
They can become scared of the crickets, if there are too many crickets running around them.  Be careful keeping any crickets in her tank for any length of period of time.  Crickets can bite them, & if left in overnight, they can chew or nibble on the eye lids & other parts of their bodies, causing sores & infection.

She may take just a little while to get used to a new home though, so I would give her a little time to calm down.
If she seems to be relatively calm, you can give her a bath that is fine.  That should help hydrate her.  If you keep putting the veggies in, eventually she might start eating a few of them, but you have to be consistent with them.

What type of lighting are you using?
Do you have UVB lighting?  If so, what type & brand are you using, a fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
Do you have a picture of her you could post for me?
