Question
Hey Tommy, I just sent you an email w/ a picture, actually from a different email address of mine.  Again, it's really hard to make out any markings in this picture, but I think it should do anyway.  I really do appreciate your help on this.

Question -
Hi.  So the urgency of this question stems from the fact that the lizard I need ID'd is one I found in the New York City office I work in.  Seems it must've come in with a recently purchased plant.  Needless to say, i wasn't prepared to take care of the thing- but it's got no other options, this being NYC and me being the only one who'll take it (I'm psyched, though, to be honest).

It is very small, I would assume immature.  Body's maybe an inch and a half long, tail probably 1.5 times the length of the body.  To get started with the description, I'll say that the closest I've seen in a picture searching the web is some kind of anole, maybe a green anole.  Right now the lizard is a medium brown, with a lighter, sort of golden stripe along the ridge of its back, and on either side of this stripe are some darker, circular spots.  I put some leaves in the terrarium to see if it'd change color, but the lizard won't stay put on the leaves just now, so it's hard to say.  I'm not totally convinced it's an anole, but I haven't found a closer match yet.  His feet look very similar to those on the anoles I've seen in pictures.  This lizard easily walks up smooth vertical surfaces.

I took it home from the office two days ago.  It's eaten some flightless fruit flies, and it's been so hot here lately, the lizard seems to be doing fine at the moment.  I very badly want it to live, but equipment is expensive and specific, so I don't want to buy anything serious until I know for sure what to get, what temperature the lizard needs to be at, etc.  I've read that things like heating rocks and heating mats are bad, that I need to get lights- I found a pretty good anole resource on the web, but if this isn't an anole, I'm not certain the advice this site gives will be suitable.

Right now the lizard is in a small plastic terrarium beside a window, placed so the tank'll be half sun and half shade in the day. I want to know what I need before I start running around buying a bigger glass tank and such.  I've lined the tank with paper towels, put a piece of driftwood in there so everything isn't just plastic and paper, and also there's a shallow dish of water.  So I think things are ok for the moment, but I feel I need to get the proper setup happening ASAP so the dude's not hurting.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a decent picture I can send- it's hard to make out the patterning, but the shape of the lizard is very clear.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi Jesse,

First.... very cool that you took him/her in!!Now let me say that buy the description you have a green anole,or brown anole...the coolering that he/she is showing will be as a result of stress... they are an arboreal lizard meaning that they need to have access to branches to climb on and chill in, but please do send the pic to xmstuff@optonline.net and i will confirm this but i will say that im 99.9 percent sure so it is my final answere lol...

VERY IMPORTANT>>> please put the intire tank in inderect sun light and out of the window as it it will cause him/her to die, our currant weather(im over here in cedar grove n.j) is good for him/her  so send the pic ill make up an AFFORDable care sheet for you..

         thanks for the ?
and the adoption!! reptiles are a very unique animal and have kept me interested in them for over twenty years lol

         thanks
