chameleon sick?

Question
My chameleon is maybe around 8 months. She thrives in a 30 gallon/ retiple extension toop tank. Lately she has been digging in the soil and bark placed within the tank snd she will just lay there.. W out moving. I moved her outside to receive more heat and she has her uvb light still on her. Yet she continues to dig and just lay in the hole she makes. I've also noticed she has been dropping weight and seems to have a loose grip on things.. I place about 50 crickets in the cage but most of them do escape before she can get to them. So im unsure now if she is acting this way due to being hungry? Or something else? Should I be feeding her something else that will bring her weight back up quickly? And if so what?

Answer
Hello Estrella,

Can you post a picture of her setup for me?
What type & brand of UVB light do you use is it a flourescent tube bulb or a compact or coil light?  The brand should be stamped on the base of the bulb.
What are the temperatures in the tank?  What type of thermometer are you using, a stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun?
Losing grip on things is a classic sign of metabolic bone disease.  Weakness, lethargic behavior, loss of balance, loss of appetite & weightloss are all signs of early development of metabolic bone disease.
Are you using calcium supplementation?  If so, how often do you use it?  Since she is younger than 1 year, she will need it 5 times per week for bone strength & growth & development.
How are you placing the crickets, in a bin or just in the tank?  An easier way to feed them is to put them in a bin that they cannot get out of.  If they are too fast & she can't catch them you can put them in the fridge for a few minutes to slow them down, or pop the back legs off of some of them to try to get her to eat them.  Have you tried any different types of worms for her yet?
Let me know how she is doing.
