Iguana tail

Question
I got my iguana months ago with a partial tail...the store told me he lost it in a fight. Then a month or two ago it turned black at the tip. I didn't know until now that it was gangrene. This morning we saw that the tip was gone...along with a bit of the tail that we thought was regrowing..it looks as if it was twisted off or caught between the cage and the rock and torn off...So we're not sure what happened. Could he have done it himself? Will it heal alright and regrow at all? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Have him seen by a good reptile vet to rule out gangrene.  If it looked like there were ligament tissue on the end, the iguana "dropped" it and it will regrow.  However if there is necrotic tissue that the vet has to remove, chances are it will not regrow.
