Question
i noticed yesterday that my lizard wasnt opening his eyes all the way, and today, his eyes are watering, and when one opens it looks like there is something white in it maybe. i put a rag with warm water over it, but that didnt seem to help. and when his eyes are closed they just dont look like they feel good, sort of more purple than the regular brownish color...does this sound like anything you know?? i was also wondering if i could use saline drops in his eye.

Answer
I would ask what UVB lighting is he getting?  If it's one of the newer compact bulbs, replace it with either an MVB or a fluorescent tube.  If you check www.ReptileUV.com and click on the link regarding them, they are causing serious eye problems in many species of reptile.  If you are not using this type of lighting, then I would rule out an infection or injury by having him seen by a good reptile veterinarian.  Another question I would ask is what kind of substrate is he on?  Some make an irritating dust.
