uro problem?

Question
Hi Tracie..I have talked to you before about my many reptiles, I just have a question about my male uro. I recently got a kitten who runs wild around the house. I took my male lizard out today for a bit and he was really quiet and just sitting there and didn't seem to be bothered. Then, he went behind the couch and put his head under one side. Then he puffed up, which i have never seen him do, only the female. Then he started moving in like an S movement and hissing. I couldn't even touch him without him tail slapping me. Could he be stressed out because of the kitten? He is usually very friendly but not today. I managed to get him back in the tank but he still hasn't moved and is still very puffed out. He is housed with a female and has been for over 6 months now with no problems. Should i separate them or could it just be the cat scared him. I didn't leave them alone together and was watching them the whole time. the cat didn't even get close to him. I have never seen him do something like this before.

Answer
Hello Erika,

Hm, well, I would assume that the cat most likely bothered him.  It happens alot.  They are somewhat nervous around cats though, & so are bearded dragons if they are not used to them.
Was that the first time he had seen the kitten?  They are normally better around adult cats because they are more calm & not as spastic as kittens are.
I would leave him in with the female right now & see if he will calm down in the next day or so.
I think that it just scared him & he was trying to defend himself.
