Question

William
I have a barking tree frog who is back in my yeard for the second spring. I have fondly named him William. He keeps coming into my house and I don't know how he is getting in but he is always on the guest bathroom john. He did this last summer all the time and I want to know your thoughts on how he is getting in and if he can go back out or will he starve if I am away for eight weeks this summer. He is very friendly and I really like this frog. Last summer there were two fo them but Rita has not come back as yet. Also how do you tell the females from the males?

Answer
Dear Catherine,
thank you for your question.
That's a nice guest :) I must admit that I have no clue how he gets in,   but frogs can squeeze through small spaces. If there is a sort of ventilation, I would assume that he gets in through there, he might think that the john is a great place to lay eggs in. He should be able to get out again unless he cannot find the way, climbing walls is not a problem for those frogs. Try putting a big bowl of water into the yard, he might accept that as a substitute and stop coming into the house.
Frogs can go without food for some time, but eight weeks is too long, he would probably starve if he got in and couldn't find his way out again. So if the water bowl doesn't help and you cannot find his way in, it might be a good idea to get someone to check the bathroom every week or so.
Males have a greenish/yellowish thraot with loose skin, they are also the only ones to call.
I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer
