Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I Have A Leopard Gecko and i just noticed that she has a lump coming out of her anal and it was bloody, ive cleaned all the blood out of the tank.. do you have any idea what this could be ? she tries to bite it off i think.. i havent seen it before..

ANSWER:   Get her to the vet right away, she may have a prolapse.  Soak a towel or handkerchief in sugar water, wrap her bottom with it and go.  This is a true emergency, but an easily fixable one.

QUESTION: Hi,
Thankyou for the information. i took her straight to the vets and they gave her anathestetic and pushed it back in. but they also said that it could come back out when she goes to the toilet. well it did again. and i phoned them. and they said to put sugar on it to make it shrivel up a little n try to push it back in.. so i did that, and shes ok again for now. i am moving them to a better tank tomorrow which should be warmer and bigger. i dont think the tank i have now is really suitable for them. the vets also gave me Baytril antibiotics. will that help the prolapse ?

You are very helpful
and i really am greatful

Answer
I had a beardie who prolapsed and my vet pushed it back and added two sutures on either side of the vent, allowing him to poop yet small enough to keep his cloaca in.  If you gecko does it again, return to the vet with the poop, have the sutures put in and have a fecal done to see if it might be due to a high parasite level.  The antibiotic he gave you will take care of any infection that the cloaca might have been exposed to while it was prolapsed, a wise precaution.
