Question
i have a male fence lizard named kenny but i don't know if he's an eastern fence or a western? uhm...what are some things to look for to know which type he is.

Answer
Hello Amanda, there are few differences but the main difference besides being completely different species is their coloring.
Western Fence lizards generally are brown to black in color (the brown may be sandy or greenish) the Eastern Fence Lizard is usually colored in shades of gray or brown. So there isn't much of a difference but a difference all the same. Western Fence lizards are more commonly sold in pet stores rather then the Eastern. Eastern Fence Lizards also grow a little bit longer but only just slightly. Average Western is adult at 15 inches where as average Eastern is adult and maximum size at 18 inches. Thought this isn't a sure fire way of telling the difference.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help but it is hard to describe the differences in lizards so similar. Compare pictures online. If I had a picture it would help a lot. If you would like send me a clear picture at reptilianyex@live.com Thank you for your question.
