Question

tail
I came home yesterday to a young iguana my girlfriend has bought me for my birthday.  At the moment he is in a 40 gallon breeder tank and I am working on his new home, Im building a 6l x 4hx 4w cage for him.  Well my question is about tail drop, The pet store she bought it at said a worker was handling him and tried to get away and the worker grabbed his tail and it dropped. I have tried searching for pictures of a healthy tail during the grow back period but cannot find any.  It is black in color and rounded at the end.  He also seems to be very skinny, being a first time ig owner i do not no what to look for as in body thickness, he seems to have a decent amount of loose skin. another thing is he seems very very calm, he has yet to run or show any defense when going to pick him up, but when holding him he tries to get away. another thing i do not no if it is normal is that i will lay on the couch with him on my chest with a blanket covering his body, when i rub his head he seems to fall asleep, when i stop rubbing his eys will stay closed.  i do have a picture of the tail also.

Answer
The regrowth on the tail looks fine.  BUT!!!  It does look very skinny on the green part.  Is it eating?  The eye closing is a response to stress.  Head rubbing is not like head rubbing on a cat.  I don't think the iggy gets any pleasure from it, but taming IS NECESSARY.

Make sure you provide UVB lighting and heat from above - NO HOT ROCKS EVER!!!!

Diet:
70-80% collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens (collards are the best), then other fresh fruits and veggies.  All squash is fine (grate it), most fruits ok (not too much, and remove seeds from apples).  Mango is great, banana ok with skin, kiwi, melon, etc.

Nothing with the word lettuce in it!!!  All water no nutrients, hence the reason we eat it when we're on a diet.

If it's not eating DAILY return it to the store ASAP.  Otherwise good luck!
