hello
i had noticed today that my african fat tail has turned a light grey colour and yesterday he seemed alot brighter,hes eating health and everything,i had read a prvious answer that asked the same question and u said the reason hes grey is because hes going to shed?? well im wondering in how manyu days does he shed after turning grey and how long does it usually take for him to she.and is it ok to still handle him while hes shedding as long as i dont tear the skin thats shedding.oh hes a yr old and i have had him for just about 3 weeks now and he will not eat any worms what so evr only crickets he eats the three week old ones and usually easts everyday or everysecond day from 5-9-12 crickets.we feed him tell hes full or ignores the crickets is this too much or to little, but we take any crickets out that he hasent ate.i montitor his temp and humidity and its all in normal range.thanxs for ur help

Hi Miranda,
The color you are seeing is because he is getting ready to shed. Its hard to tell how long it will take but its generally only a few days. Its important to provide a humid hide for him which is vital to their shedding process.  Here is a care sheet link for you...

He may be a bit grouchy when shedding, but you can still handle him.
You are doing fine with how you are feeding him and its great to know you are taking out any uneaten crickets!!!!
Its fine that he prefers the crickets over the other insects but you can continue to offer different insects as you may find one that he also likes.  On waxworms, only a few, on occasion as they are too high in fat content and can cause liver problems, not to mention a fat gecko.
