Question
I hope you don't mind all my questions. I just want to make sure I can get this right. Thank you for your time, it means a lot.
Ok, one thing I need to know. How often do you clean a cage that contains sand (as in, full-clean, not just scooping things out every few days) and how do you go about this cleaning? Also, how would you reccomend cleaning the water dish every day? Just rinsing it off? What about the salad dish?
Well, the bearded dragon is pooping, at least. I've petted him a bit; it seems he's somewhat more used to me. He ate a cricket while I watched a day ago, but since then hasn't eaten anymore. I tried putting one in his face today, to see if he showed interest, and he didn't. Should I just dump a whole bunch of crickets in there during the day for him and then round the uneaten ones up at night? I know maybe feeding him in another box might be good, but I don't want to stress him out even more by picking him up and putting him in there, then throwing crickets at him. Supposedly, though, it sometimes takes beardies a few weeks to settle in, but still. *Worried* We got him Thursday...
I think my tank might be too small to attach those lights to the underside of the screen...it's about thirty gallons, we think. Do those larger lights you mentioned (the Megaray and the T-Rex) give off a bunch of heat? I've already got a basking light, so too much more heat might make it too hot. If they don't, though, I have clamp-lamp fixtures that could keep the lights twelve inches from the beardie. Do the Megaray and the T-Rex give off UVB and UVA?
  I just got a Zilla-brand food-spray calcium supplement...o.o...
He's been under the compact light since we got him, which would be about...oh...roughly four days. I've turned it off, now, but how long can you keep if off without them suffering from improper UVB/UVA exposure?

Thanks again.

Answer
Hello Aubri,
No I don't mind the questions, I want you to get it all correct! :-))If you have a tank with sand or loose substrate, other than daily scopping, etc, I would change out the sand once a month.  The water dish needs to be cleaned out at least once a day, unless he goes to the bathroom in it, then of course it has to be cleaned out!  LOL  The salad dish, that should be cleaned out at least once daily.
No I would not dump lots of crickets in his tank, because if he is stressed or doesn't eat them, they can nibble on him.  You could get a large tupperware bin to feed him in, that helps.  Yes, it takes a little time for them to settle in, sometimes up to 2-3 weeks.
Good you have shut off the compact UVB.  Well, he should not go without UVB for longer than 1 month at his age.
The Megaray & T-rex put out UVB & UVA both, yes.  IF you purchased either one of those, you would not need another basking light since you have the minimal sized tank I would use with a Mercury vapor lamp.  How tall is the tank?  Can you safely have it at 12 inches from his basking site then?  Your clamp light, well, it needs to be a ceramic fixture rated up to 250 watts just so it will handle the heat of the mercury bulbs.  You can get a ceramic fixture dome at Lowe's or Home Depot for $10 or so.

(go under lighting, & then the mercury vapor bulbs)
The spray calcium, use that daily to ensure he gets enough calcium.  You can also use a powder either from Jurassical or Repcal calcium with or without D3.
As long as he is warm enough he will be ok for a bit without UVB.  He is better off without that particular light anyway.
