Leopard Gecko - Pale

Question
Ok we bought our first Leopard Gecko (named Wrinkles) about a week and a half ago.  (S)he is a baby about 2 months old.  For a while he stayed in his hide unless taken out would then eat and return to his hide.  Recently we've seen Wrinkles coming out more at night on his own to hunt but I've noticed his coloring is splotchy pale.  (S)he isn't completely pale just spots that look greyer than the rest.  If that makes sense.  Is Wrinkles getting ready to shed?  Or could there be a problem?

Answer
Hi Jeri Lynn. It sure sounds like it's shedding time to me. Does Wrinkle's have a moist hide in the enclosure? It's good to have a dry hide on the cooler side and a moist hide on the warm side. This helps your Gecko shed. If there is a moist hide, the process will take a few days most likely, and don't expect to find the shed skin, because your gecko will probably eat it. Ew. I know. If there isn't a moist hide, you can easily make one or buy one. If you have a margarine tub, or something around that size, you can simply make a hole large enough for wrinkles to get through easily in the side, and put few few damp paper towels in there too. I personally like moss in my hide, but almost anything that will hold moisture and is non toxic can be used for this purpose. It's good that he's out hunting! Getting used to his new home! Thanks for the question, Nicole
