QuestionI have just recently gotten a baby bearded dragon, this is my first pet of this type, I placed a synthetic resin log for basking under a heat lamp, and UVB, after the 2nd day I noticed that the synthetic log was almost burning hot at the top and I was worried my dragon has burned himself I know they are susceptible to this, its only been 3 days since we have gotten him, and he seems to be eating crickets still though not as many as I would think he should be, however that may be because he is not settled in to his new home yet... If you have any advice i would appreciate it, I have moved a new log under the lamp, it is wood hopefully it will not get as hot.
AnswerHello Jennifer,
I would take the synthetic log out. Replace it with a wooden log or a ceramic type of basking platform since they do not get as hot. Oh, never mind, you already did put another log there!! :-)) Great. I am sure that will work out better.
It does take a couple of weeks usually, to get over their relocation stress after coming into a new home.
Make sure the crickets are appropriately sized for him. They should be smaller than the space between the eyes.
What type of UVB lighting are you using? A flourescent tube bulb, or a compact or coil light? What type of basking light do you use? A bright white light or a colored light?
What do you use to measure the temps with, a stick on thermometer, a digital probe or a temp gun? What are the temps?
What type of substrate is in his tank?
Are you using calcium supplementation for him?
