ANSWER: Hello Drae,

How old is your anole, it looks to be a pretty green.
What are the temperatures in the tank, do you use a basking light?
Are you using any UVB lighting for him?
What type of substrate is he on, sand, paper towels?

anole: been brown late
QUESTION: Hey Tracie, Im not sure how old it is Ive had it since the beginning of september. its pretty green in the pic cause the glash on my phone is bright, but its been brown lately. idk the temp in the tank i need to get one for it but i do have a heating lamp which i use at night since its getting cold. i just bought tropical soil (expandable compressed coconut fiber bedding) yesterday and changed the tank. it used to be soil mixed with a little dirt and wood chips. im new to the reptile pet thing so thanx for assisting me.

ANSWER: Hello Drae,

Well, being a tropical lizard, the basking temperatures should only be around 85-92 or so.  They don't need it too terribly hot.  What is the humidity in the tank?
A digital probe or a temp gun would be the best things to use to measure the temperatures with.  The cooler end can be around 78-82 or so.
A UVB would be a good idea, if you can swing it.  The Reptisun 5 or 10 tube bulb would be great.  You can get them from  petmountain.com
Steer clear of the compact & coil lights, as well as the Reptiglo products.
Also, sometimes when the tank is changed around, they can get stressed due to the changes.
Has he eaten anything today?

QUESTION: Hey Tracie, he ate a meal worm i placed on a leaf in the tank a couple mins ago. i think it was too big cause he spit up half of it. this is the 1st he has eaten. as to the temp gauges im gonna look into getting one tomorrow or monday.  thanks for the help Tracie, i really appreciate it. :-). is there anything else i should know or need?

Answer
Hello Drae,

Well, I would give him a little more time to get used to the tank changes.
He wouldn't be ingesting the substrate would he?
I think that the temperatures are important, so definitely try to find a better thermometer so you have a better idea about the temperatures.

If he still has not improved here shortly, we will have to possibly get a fecal done on him to determine if he has worms or parasites.

I hope that he starts getting better for you.
