Question
QUESTION: hi i have a missing newt now for 2 days ,well left bowls of water in every room but still no sign,i also have 2 dogs could you please tell me if it would hibernate or if it would hide for a few days then appear when hungry or in need of water

ANSWER: Hey Jean, You need to keep the dogs outside as much as possible or in a garage perhaps because they will try and get the little guy. Bowls of water is good you might also want to try some food. He will seek the water, all animals will so keep checking. Maybe he sneeks out at night for a drink so turn out the lights and shut the blinds to make it really dark in your home then wait a bit. I don't beleive he would go into a hibernating state unless your temperatures in your home or too cold. Which isn't likely cold enough to make him hibernate. But when you try making it dark try to get all the noise off too (TV, Stereo, Washer and Dryer, Dish-washer, etc.) So it really seems like its night. They can go multiple days without food but water is a tough one to get around so just keep checking. I am sure he will turn up soon. Good luck!

QUESTION: hello again ,sorry to bother you but id like to know if my dogs managed to catch the chinese fire bellied newt would it harm them if it was ate, wich i hope hasnt happend ,i also have some blood worms in each bowl of water all around the house how long would she survive out water and food roaming free around the house .my huse is open pland so she could be anywhere

Answer
Hello, I don't beleive the dogs would be harmed and I can't seem to find any information on it. Most dogs though will hunt and not eat however. But if your dog starts acting weird then take him to the vet. I don't think you have anything to worry about though. You might want to add some type of ramp up to the bowl of water, make it easy for her to get in. She can go several weeks without eating. Much much longer then any human. Most bought at pet stores have already been starved for a couple weeks. So you still have a while before starvation really sets in. As for water I am not sure. Probably not as long as he can go without food but with the water dishes through out the house I am sure he is sneaking some occasionally. Just keep waiting. I hope he turns up soon. Good luck. Oh and if you are really into finding him maybe you can contact a animal control or something to search but that might be a little drastic and expensive, but still a choice. Again good luck!
