Question

Hi there,

i work in a pet store that told me id only be working with snakes then all of a sudden they throw all sorts of lizrads on my lap which i have no clue about!

we have about five blue tailed skinks all together in a big vevarium...they are all pretty small.. no more than half an inch i believe.. i think we have 3 females and 2 males, and because of the stupididty of the pet store.. they have no idea what to feed them... i did research and i know they like crikets.. my question is.. how do i feed them the crikets?... should i just let the crickets run lose in their viv.. or should i take each one out and feed them individualy?.. or put the crikets into a yougurt cart like with chameleons?.. should i also put in some vegies into their diet.. any information would be helpful.. because even though they are hardy critters.. they do need to eat.. and i dont think i can stand looking at another small animals lifeless body because of human neglect..

Answer
They can eat crickets half the size of their heads,in fact any kind of appropriately sized insect.  Pet shops usually have wax worms, mealworms, supers and crickets.  Worms can be put in the tank in a shallow dish, but crickets I would not leave in the tank overnight. I get a feeding bin for crickets. Make sure their temps are good, that they are well misted and that they have a UVB source that is less than 6 months old.  Do not use a coil or compact type, they have caused eye damage.
