what to do with lizard eggs

Question
Yesterday afternoon my dog killed a lizard.  I left it in the yard, under a box until my husband could come home and get rid of it.  Turns out, it wasn't dead (but I doubt it will live much longer).  It laid a dozen eggs in the grass under the box.  I found the hole in the ground that it came from and I could see that there were eggs in the hole so gently covered the hole with dirt to keep the dogs out  and give them a chance to survive.  But I need to know what to do with the eggs in the grass.  They are not safe where they are, and the lizard only laid them there because I trapped it.  Is there any chance that they can survive after a night in the open and what should I do to protect them?  I have no desire to try and hatch them myself.  I'd just like to give nature a chance to do what it does.

Answer
Chances are the eggs above may not survive.  You could try digging a similar hole, placing the eggs without turning them in the hole and covering them.  It will be there best chance, if the eggs are dead, they will just not hatch.  May their properly laid siblings hatch and thrive.
