Question

Lizard
I just moved to south Texas from Nebraska about a year ago. My children called me outside yesterday to look at this lizard. Can you tell me what kind it is and whether or not it is harmful to my little ones?

Answer
Hi Katie,
Looks like a green anole that is brown at the moment(as they can change colors) Since your weather is getting warmer there, you will most likely start to see a variety of lizards out and about.
http://www.zo.utexas.edu/research/txherps/lizards/anolis.carolinensis.html  will take you directly to a picture of one.  Also, the link below may be of interest to you in that it contains pictures, etc of various reptiles that are native to your area.

Its not harmful, if they let it alone, which they should only enjoy it by watching it.  I would not allow them to try to keep one in captivity as it would most likely die.  As with all reptiles, especially those in the wild, they can carry diseases, parasites and salmonella.
You don't have to worry about it attacking your children or anything like that. If they happen to touch it, or play in an area that you see the lizards, proper handwashing should be used.
