Question
My Bearded dragon recently went through a shed and during the shed she closed her eyes and hasnt opened them since. I've been trying water soaked cotton balls as the vet prescribed but it doesnt seem to be working. Im just looking for other options on why she isnt opening either eye. There's no swelling or puss coming from either eye.
Thank you for your help.
Jamie

Answer
Your question was sent to the pool, but I will answer it for you:

If you had taken the Beardie into the vet, why could he/she not treat any retained shed at that time? Or did you just call the vet?

Refusal to open either eye does not sound like a simple dysecdysis problem anymore. It is possible that the eyes are irritated or infected despite there being visible discharge; or that she has another more serious infection, and/or your temperatures are wrong.

You need to see if you can rinse the eyelids with a stream of saline and apply a thin amount of mineral oil. I think you also need to physically take her in to have her checked. A lizard that sit with eyes closed despite temp being warm enough, is usually deathly ill. If she can't see, she also can't eat, and this is a serious situation.
