curley tail lizard wont eat crickets and hides

Question
Hi, i have a couple of questions, you helped me a while back and then you maxed out on questions, well my curly tail lizard won't eat crickets, he only likes the wax worms and meal worms, i have made him wait three days and only offered him crickets but he won't eat them, he just ignores them, even lets them crawl on him, he goes right after the wax worms, is that a bad diet for him, and what can i do? he also hates me, everytime he is out of his rock cave and sunning himself or just hanging out the minute he sees me he runs in his cave.  i've had him a couple of months now, and handled him too much the first couple of days, then left him alone for a month or more, and then handled him for just a few minutes every other day for about 3 days then stopped i scared the crap out of him literally twice so thats why i stopped, so now he hides every time he sees me now, he hates me. any suggestions?  thanks for your time, i really appreciate it.  Thanks Nancy

Answer
Hello Nancy,

Oh your spoiled curly tail!  He will only eat the waxies & the mealies now?  They are not necessarily bad for him, but a little high in fat.  Have you thought about trying phoenix worms or butterworms for him?  He might like those.
Just keep trying with the crickets.  Maybe eventually he will eat them again.  They do go through eating phases as do most reptiles from time to time.
Do you pick him up after you let him see your hand?  Are you moving slowly around him?  They get scared with fast or sudden movements.  Give him time, he should get used to you but for a smaller reptile, they take a little time to get fully comfortable around their new home & owner.  :-))
