QuestionI am wondering what kind of behavior most captive Nile moniters have. I thought they were diurnal and mine seems to just sleep all day and I haven't seen signs of much nocturnal movement either. Is there something I need to check on or is this typical of these reptiles? Thank you
AnswerLuke the first thing to check is that the heat is at the right temperatures as this is usually the #1 culprit in cases such as this where the reptile becomes sluggish etc. Yes Nile Monitors are diurnal and I would suspect that either the lizard is not warm enough or there is not enough UVB being provided. One of those is the first place to start and after those are ruled out I would start looking at other things.
