QUESTION: I just got my new bearded dragon 2 days ago and it is a juvenile. I put it in its cage the first day and it seemed to sleep a lot or its eyes where shut a lot. I didn't worry about it thinking it was scared or had to get use to its new environment. It doesn't move much and sits under the basking and uvb light a lot with its eyes shut. I thought it would be more curios about its cage. I tried feeding some crickets to him but he doesn't seem to notice them. I have some banana and juvenile dragon food in there mixed. He hasn't touched it. I'm just worried is he sick or something. So what should i do?

ANSWER: Hello Nevan,

I looked over your tank setup.  It looks like you have a compact/coil type of light, correct?
If so, I would turn that light out as those types of lights emit low wavelength of UVB which can be hazardous to their health.  Those lights also cause eye issues, too.
What type of basking light do you use, a bright white light or is it a coated or colored light?
How do you measure the temperatures, do you have a digital probe or a temp gun?  What are the temperatures in the tank?
It can take up to a couple of weeks sometimes for them to settle into a new home.
Are you feeding him outside of his tank so crickets wont hide in his tank & bite him?

QUESTION: It is a coil UVB and I turned it off and the basking light is a yellowish more than a white not colored and I have a thermal temp measuring thing the things on the tank just really give me how humid it is in there and the bask spot is 105-110 and the other side is 75-85 and I am trying to feed him outside of his tank in a smaller tank but he hasn't eaten one yet. I also gave him a bath in Luke warm water which made him go to the bathroom. That's really all I have for you.

Answer
Hello Nevan,

That is fine with the basking light, as long as it is not coated with neodymium it is good.
You can get either a Reptisun 10 or the Arcadia D3 12% tube bulb for him.  You can get them at:

Hopefully he will start eating for you real soon.
Let me know how he is doing.

Thanks.
