QuestionHi! My year old bearded has gotten slighty yellow/orangish and is lethargic. I
noticed it since putting her in a larger mesh cage and have just yesterday
added more light and a larger ceramic non-light heat bulb.(current day temp
is around 85 to 87 and nightime around 78). She also has a good basking
lamp. She will not chase down crickets and does not climb, however she
iseating when I hand feed her and drinks when I mist her and her cage. Am I
right in thinking that the change in cages (from a 20 gallon glass to a 60
gallon mesh may have caused this? Any suggestions?"
AnswerHello Lisa,
What are you measuring the temps with a digital probe or a temp gun? The temps of 85-87 are not nearly high enough. Mesh tanks normally are not recommended because they do not hold heat very well. They need a basking temp of 95-110. What type of basking lamp are you using, is it a bright white light or a colored bulb?
Are you using a UVB light? What type & brand are you using?
I would not mist her tank as that could hold too much moisture. Their humidity should stay around 40% but just take her out to mist her or bathe her daily.
She is lethargic because she is not warm enough. Maybe for now, cover a portion of the mesh with a towel to hold a bit more heat in, but still keep some ventilation. Be careful not to cause a fire by placing anything to close to the lights though.
Let me know how she is doing.
